Processes and practices in user experience design have much to offer the field of instructional design when developing learning solutions. I pursued a second MS in Interactive Communications and Media to further develop my visual and multimedia design skills, as well as enhance my design process with principles of UX design.

Creating Learner Journey Maps

In the Summer of 2019, I presented at the iDesign Learning online conference on the topic of Creating Learner Journey Maps as part of the ID planning process.

Learner Personas

Robust learner personas help the instructional designer envision the goals, needs and motivations of their learners. These personas drive the design of the overall experience in ways that are meaningful and personalized.

Mapping the Online Student Experience

Learner journey maps are borrowed from the UX concept of "customer journey maps" - this process helps the designer to visualize the important victory and pain points along the learning process for a targeted learner.

Leveraging UX Methods for Instructional Design

Many of the processes from the design thinking approach can be applied to instructional design practices in order to strengthen the overall quality of the design solutions to meet the needs of the learners.
